Hallam CLC - Environmental Learning Centre

Aim

To enhance the teaching and learning experience across the curriculum using new technologies in an environmental setting

Objectives

To develop an Environmental Learning Centre

  • To provide a high-tech self-contained building suitable for groups to use as a base for fieldwork
  • To provide a building that illustrates the concepts of sustainable development and energy efficiency
  • To equip the building with laptops, data projector, hand-held devices, data recording equipment & a full range of fieldwork equipment                

To develop curriculum resources, cross-curricular links and transitional opportunities across Key Stages 1 to 5 

  • To collect real time data eg web cams in bird boxes
  • To develop fieldwork opportunities in Biology, Geography & Environmental Science
  • To encourage the use of the area by other subjects
  • To enhance links with other schools, both primary & secondary, by providing study opportunities and hence impact on quality of coursework and exam grades
  • To create wider links with environmental groups etc
  • To develop links with university departments
  • To support Notre Dame's Kielder Challenge activities to develop disability awareness and integration

To develop the innovative use of ICT in an environmental setting

  • To collect real time data eg web cams in bird boxes, weather data from wireless stations
  • To collect time lapse data through web cameras in the area
  • To use data-logging in a real environment
  • To promote the use of ICT outside the classroom & laboratory
