Sheffield City Learning Centres

The Excellence in Cities programme has established a network of school-based City Learning Centres (CLCs) across the country.
Sheffield is unique in the number of City Learning Centres established within it; as well as Hallam CLC based at Notre Dame High School, there are four other centres:

Sheffield East CLC based at City School
Sheffield North CLC based at Yewlands School
Sheffield South CLC based at Newfield School
Sheffield West CLC based at Myers Grove School

CLCs provide state-of-the art ICT-based learning opportunities for the students and staff at the host schools, their networks of partner schools and in the wider community.
The initiatives are designed to improve teaching and learning using ICT, and include:

  • cross-curricular ICT training for teachers and support staff
  • acting as test beds for innovation and new ways of teaching and learning
  • cascading best practice amongst schools
  • providing extension activities for Gifted and Talented pupils and other groups
  • linking with other learning communities such as the network of Specialist and Beacon schools
  • study support
  • offering opportunities to the local community to improve basic skills and utilise the power of ICT
  • supporting vendor qualifications
  • creating links with local businesses
